The Women's Emergency Network (WEN) is a nonprofit organization that assists individuals in exercising their right to reproductive choice. We believe that every individual must have the right to decide if and when to have children.
What we do
WEN subsidizes reproductive health care for folks in South Florida.
How it all began
WEN was created in response to the Hyde amendment, passed by Congress in 1976 prohibiting the federal funding of abortion care. Florida, along with thirty-four other states, has made access to reproductive choice difficult by excluding abortion coverage from Medicaid .
WEN was founded on the conviction that reproductive freedom is an empty promise for those who lack the financial means necessary to access the full range of reproductive choices available to them.
How we do it
WEN underwrites the cost of medication or procedural abortion, including but not limited to lab work, sedation, medications, contraception, and follow-up care.
We also provide support if you have to travel to receive legal reproductive health care services elsewhere.
Lastly, we provide financial assistance to anyone wanting a contraceptive who is not able to pay for the contraceptive method of their choice.
