WEN is dedicated to ensuring that all people can make autonomous decisions about their REPRODUCTIVE needs and access necessary resources regardless of race, income, location, age, marriage IMMIGRATION status, gender or ability TO PAY.

  • WEN serves any person who does not feel it is the right time for them to have a child.

  • On average, WEN clients already had more than 1 child when they sought assistance.

  • Some were survivors of rape, incest or domestic violence.

  • Some were homeless.

  • Some had some health related factor, including HIV, substance abuse, fetal anomaly or other health risk.

However, WEN clients are more than just statistics.  These are some of their stories (all names have been changed to protect client confidentiality):

Stacey is 43 years old and raising her teenage son alone.  She is still struggling to recover from the loss of her home and car last year and the more recent loss of her mother.  Crime and violence make life in public housing stressful for Stacey and her son, who is preparing to begin college.  Stacey enrolled in a nursing program, which she sees as a way out of her current job, where she is barely making ends meet.  Stacey needed WEN’s assistance to deal with her unplanned pregnancy.

Amanda is 18 years old and unemployed.  She and her boyfriend live with Amanda’s mother in a 2-bedroom apartment that houses 7 other people.  Her mother is the only person that is employed and able to support the household.  Amanda’s financial distress led her to consider prostitution and suicide, before approaching WEN for assistance in terminating her pregnancy.

Trina is 28 years old, on Medicaid and homeless.  She already has 3 children and was using condoms to avoid another pregnancy, but the condom failed.  She is already in poor health and unable to care for another child.  WEN assistance helped to protect Trina’s health and well-being.

"I currently have four children already. I recently went through a domestic violence relationship. The situation has led my four children and I to a domestic violence shelter, in which we are currently residing. My abuser is the father of this baby and I feel it would be a safer option to abort. This will provide me with the closure I need to move on and stay away from this person."

"Thank you so very much for helping me in this time of need. I am a single mom of two, barely making ends meet financially. This was the worst possible timing for me to bring a baby into this world. I am in an unhealthy relationship, was trying to leave and am unable to ask him for help. My mother always helped when she could, but she died earlier this year unexpectedly. Your funding helped me more than you know."

"Allowing me to focus and care for the family I have, and give them all of my attention has been the gift you have given me.  If I am ever in a position to give to a cause like this, I will. I have three children and want to give them the best chance to grow up with the means to realize their dreams. My family is complete and it would be unfair to divide my attention any more ways. By making this choice, with your help, I am giving them all of me."
